ABOUT
Joel Foster is a UK-based composer for film, theatre and audiovisual media. His work explores the intersection of cinematic orchestration, experimental sound design and contemporary composition, often blending acoustic instruments with electronic textures to create atmospheric and emotionally driven scores.
Joel’s music has been performed by leading contemporary ensembles including the Solem Quartet, and he has collaborated with musicians associated with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. His work spans a wide range of contexts, from chamber music and audiovisual installations to theatre and media composition.
In 2023 Joel was commissioned to create a new work for Delia Derbyshire Day in collaboration with Brighter Sound, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project celebrated the legacy of pioneering electronic composer Delia Derbyshire and explored themes of voice, technology and sonic identity.
Alongside his composing work, Joel is also an active songwriter and performer as part of the alternative rock band JEKYLL, whose music has received national radio airplay including broadcasts on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 Music.
Joel holds a BA in Music and an MA in Music and Audiovisual Media from the University of Liverpool. He is currently developing new projects across film, theatre and contemporary media.
